Here is what you’ll need from the grocery store:
- Extra virgin olive oil, ⅓ cup olive oil
- White onions, 3 large white onions – sliced
- Red apples, 3 small to medium red apples – cored and sliced
- Unsalted butter, 5 tablespoons butter – divided
- Kosher salt, 2 teaspoons salt (or to taste)
- Black pepper, 2 teaspoons pepper (or to taste)
- Pre-cooked turkey breast, 1½ pound pre-cooked turkey breast (we like Costco’s Kirkland Oven-Browned Turkey Breast) – chopped into bite-sized pieces
- Garlic, 6 cloves fresh garlic – minced
- Pecans, ⅓ cup chopped pecans – (or substitute with walnuts)
- Thyme, 3 sprigs fresh thyme
- Rosemary, 3 sprigs fresh rosemary
How do you make Turkey Skillet with Apples and Sweet Onions?
In a large skillet or cast-iron skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add onions, apples, and 3 tablespoons of butter. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Stir and cook until apples have started to soften; about 7 to 10 minutes.
Stir in the garlic, turkey, and pecans. Add remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the thyme and rosemary sprigs. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the apples are fork-tender.
